The 62nd Anniversary run of the Wagon Train journey from The Highway 50 Association  is a member and sponsor-supported organization providing many family-oriented, fun-filled events and activities. The 62nd Anniversary run of the Wagon Train journey from Zephyr Cove, Nevada to Placerville (Old Hangtown) is June 4th through June 12th, 2011. You'll be able to take a step back through time and relive the adventures and trials of the early pioneers as they forged their way west in this annual re-enactment of the old Wagon Train which brought the earliest settlers to the Mother Lode.

As early as the 1840's. A few hearty souls had begun the arduous journey toward the great Pacific and the freedom they foresaw in settling here. Then in 1849, when the first cries of “Gold” rang out from the foothills of the California Territory, a flood of new fortune seekers and entrepreneurs made their way West. In the early 1850's one of the major land routes – traversing what we now know as Echo Summit and the Highway 50 corridor – became known as the Roaring Road, as it was so full of westward travelers.

As early as 1946, almost 100 years after the Gold Rush, a group of local citizens began to make plans to re-enact that original jouney and by 1949, the dream had become a reality!

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the "Gold Rush", a Wagon Train was formed to travel west from Lake Tahoe to Placerville along Highway 50. The event was a huge success, and while the Wagon Train did not make the journey in 1950, it has for every year since. What began as a simple adventure has become an historical event and remains the only bi-state historic event!

The Highway 50 Association's Wagon Train encourages school groups to take part in an eye-opening history lesson that will be long-remembered. The Wagon Train is also a memorable family event...whether you join for a day or the entire ride. Relive a piece of our heritage! The Wagon Train experience includes waking u0p before dawn to the smell of coffee and bacon, and days filled with the sounds and tasks of yesteryear offer a welcome break from 21st century life! Days are rounded out with storytelling by the campfires and low-key entertainment.

To help with ever-increasing costs to run this event, there will be a Spaghetti Western Wagon Train Fundraiser at the Pollock Pines/Camino Community Center in Pollock Pines at 2675 Sanders Drive on April 23rd form 4 to 8pm to Placerville (Old Hangtown) is June 4th through June 12th, 2011.
